Common name: centipede
Botanical family: (animal) Scolopendridae
Botanical name: Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch.

Primary action: Extinguish Wind, Stop Spasm
Secondary actions: Clear Heat Toxins; Dispel Wind Dampness
Temperature: warm
Taste: acrid, toxic
Entering Channel: Lv

Actions:
   Extinguishes Interior Wind and relieves spasms; used in epilepsy, convulsions, and tetanus.
   Detoxifies Fire Poison and dissipates nodules; used topically in powder form for enlarged lymph nodes, especially on the neck, abscesses and sores.
   Moves Qi and relieves Painful Impediment in the Channels.
   Relieves Wind Damp ulcerations of the skin; used for fungus infections of the skin, applied topically; also for Damp fungus-type infections and tuberculosis of the bones.

Cautions:
   Contraindicated during pregnancy.
