Common name: morning glory seed

Botanical name: 1, Pharbitidis nil (L.) Choisy; 2, P. purpurea (L.) Voigt

Primary action: Harsh expellants
Secondary actions: Drain Dampness, Promote Urination; Expel Parasites
Temperature: cold
Taste: acrid, bitter, toxic
Entering Channel: Lu, Kd, LI

Actions:
   Expels water by inducing watery diarrhea and increasing diuresis; used for accumulation of Repletion Heat in Stomach and Intestines with severe constipation, distended abdomen, and difficult urination.
   Expels Phlegm and Congested Fluids; used for accumulation of fluids in chest and abdomen with cough, wheezing, and sensation of fullness in the chest.
   Expels Parasites (especially roundworms and tapeworms) and reduces Food Stagnation.

Dosage: 1.5-3 qian in decoctions; 0.5-1 qian if taken orally as powder.
