Common name: black cohosh rhizome
Botanical family: Umbelliferae
Botanical name: 1, Cimicifuga foetida L.; 2, C. dahurica (Turcz.); 3, C. heracleifolia Kom.

Primary action: Release Wind Heat
Secondary actions: Rectify Qi; Drain Fire
Temperature: cool
Taste: sweet, acrid, slightly bitter
Entering Channel: Lu, Sp, LI, St

Actions:
   Releases Exterior and promotes eruption of rashes and measles.
   Raises the Yang Qi; used for sinking of Qi (prolapse of abdominal organs).
   Assists in channeling other herbs upward.
   Clear Heat Toxin.

Indications: measles, mouth sores, toothache, sore throat, organ prolapse, diarrhea
