Botanical family: Leguminosae
Botanical name: 1, Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge; 2, A. mongholicus Bge.; 3, A. chrysopterus Bge.; 4, A. floridus Benth.; 5, A. tongolensis Ulbr.

Primary action: Supplement Qi
Secondary actions: Supplement Blood
Temperature: slightly warm
Taste: sweet
Entering Channel: Sp, Lu

Actions:
   Supplements the Spleen and Supplements Qi and Blood.
   Raises the Yang Qi; used for sinking of Qi (prolapse of abdominal organs).
   Fortifies protective Qi and stops sweating; may be used to help regulate sweating; used for excessive sweating of Vacuity of Qi, of Yang, or of Yin, or for inadequate sweating of Exterior Patterns depending upon other herbs with which it is combined.
   Promotes urination and relieves edema due to Vacuity of Qi or Yang.
   Promotes pus discharge and accelerates healing of wounds and sores; used for chronic sores that have not drained well.
   Supplements Qi and Blood.

Dosage: 3-10 qian.
